Week of February 13-17

It's the last week of the 4th six weeks.  Lets prepare for our exams this week.  We will continue to work on expository writing this week. Students remember that we need to incorporate all components for expository writing in our essays.  Remember that having a well developed introduction will drive your reader to keep on reading your story, making this component a very important one. Having a define main idea for each of your paragraphs will make your points clear to the reader. Remember that it also keeps you on topic. Lately, the details (CAFESQD), will back up and support your main ideas.

The following are the components that must be incorporated in your expository essays. Please make sure that you review them.

Introductions:
Funnel: Starts with a big idea and narrows down to the specific idea.
Quotation: Uses a quote to lead to the central idea sentence.
Turnabout: Starts with an opposite idea and then moves to the focus.
Statistic: Information is presented as a number, ration, or percentage.
Question: The central idea is presented as a question.
Description: A sentence that uses the five senses to present the central idea.

We will continue to work on our expository essay this week.  Think of reasons why "your restaurant", should win the restaurant of the year contest. Also, we will be working on homophones, commonly confused words. Please search on the topic. What are homophones? How do knowing the meaning of these words can benefit a sentence, and how would it harm it?

Reminder: We will have six weeks test next week, Feb. 13-17. Make sure that you turn in all assignments on time.
