Week of November 28- December 2nd


Welcome back! I hope that all of you are well rested and ready to work.  We still have many things to cover and no time shall be wasted.  Also, make sure to turn in all assignment on time. We will be covering adjectives during the week.  As I mention at the begging of the school year, adjectives are very important in writing. Adjectives are words that describe nouns or pronouns by telling what kind, how many, or which one. Furthermore, we will analyze the difference between linear and webbed paragraphs in expository writing.

Ornament Project

The project consists of decorating an ornament with information on a particular subject/topic.  Each student is to research on the topic and answer the questions below. 

·         

*     What is/are _____________?

·         Why is it important for everyone to be aware of what __________ /are/means?

·         How can you incorporate ____________ into writing?

·         Show examples of how _________ is/are used in writing?

Project will be worth three grades:

*Creativity on ornament  ( Include the topic covered and a brief definition of it.)

*Presentation

*Written respond to questions provided ( Please write the answers to the questions in complete sentences.)

Project is due on November 28, 2016

Presentations will take place that day and the following 

 Week of November 14-18

        We  will continue to work on personal essay for the reminder of the week. This will be the last narrative essay that we will be writing before that we move on to expository.  I want to ask everyone of you to start researching on expository. Look for the different types of expository essays that there is and the different components. We will also be working on adverbs this week.  The following are some helpful sites to have a better understanding.

Its the last week of the 2nd six weeks!  Its that time again, students please prepare yourself for the all exams. Make sure that all assignment are turned in on time. We will continue to work on the person narrative.

Week of October 24-28

We will be covering introductions and conclusions to narrative writing during the week. There are different types of introductions that can be used to writing to hook the reader to keep on reading your essay. Make sure that you turn in all assignments on time to your teachers.

       We will continue to cover compound sentences this week. Make sure that you take a look at the notes below, to have a better understanding of what compound sentences are. Make sure that you turn in all assignments to all teachers. We will be taking the 2nd six weeks mini assessment on Thursday, October 20th. Make sure that you go over your interactive notebook notes. 

What Are Compound Sentences?

A compound sentence has at least two independent clauses.

An independent clause (unlike a dependent clause) can stand alone as a sentence.

In a compound sentence, the two clauses are joined using:

• a conjunction with a comma (e.g., ", and")

• a semicolon
(Read more about using semicolons.)
• a colon
(This is rare because the words after a colon are not often an independent clause.)

• a dash
(Read more about using dashes instead of semicolons and colons.)

(This is rare because it's an outdated style.)

• Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain - and most fools do. (Dale Carnegie)
